Design beds

2023 - Noble

The Noble bed is the newest addition to the Auping family. It is a timeless and majestic bed designed by Johan van Hengel. The bed exudes a subtle form of luxury. It has a unique and soft vibe thanks to its elegant wooden frame. The wide headboard, which extends across the entire head of the bed and the bedside tables, provides a beautiful feeling of comfort and security. The lounge cushions, which are attached to the headboard, create a layered and luxurious lounge effect. The bed is handcrafted in Deventer from specially selected solid and sustainable oak wood from forests in Europe.

2020 - Noa

The Auping Noa bed is an authentic Scandinavian design that boasts simple shapes, clever details and natural materials. In November 2021, the jury of the Archiproducts Design Awards 2021 declared this elegant bed the winner in the category of
furniture. Noa was designed by Danish architect and designer Eva Harlou.
The name Noa means tranquility, comfort and security. This is reflected in its elegant, functional and responsible design. The wooden frame features soft, rounded shapes. The wave in the design gives the bed its unique look and makes it seem as if the frame is hugging the mattress. The tapered legs create a refined look.

2013 - Criade

The Auping design team was looking for an answer to the traditional box spring. They worked with Auping's signature materials and the horizontal lines that are distinctive to the brand. These horizontal lines are also visible in earlier Auping beds, such as the Cleopatra (1953) and the Ariadne (1954). The Criade is a refined box spring. Its steel frame gives the Criade a unique signature and carries the design optically.

2012 - Essential

In 2012, the Berlin-based design duo Köhler & Wilms created the iconic Essential design. The bed is characterised by sophisticated, minimalist shapes. The modern design is maintained throughout, right down to the tapered legs. The ingenious construction uses a minimum number of materials and parts. The sturdy frame is completely dismantled, reusable and made from 87% recycled aluminium. This makes the Essential the world's first fully recyclable bed.

“You wouldn’t think we designed this bed 10 years ago. And that’s the recipe for its longevity: timeless design combined with good materials.”

Claudia Köhler & Irmy Wilms – Auping Essential designers

2007 - Original

The Original is a minimalist bed with strong lines and an elegant look. It is inspired by one of Auping's first designs, the Cleopatra. The design dates back to 2007 and as of 2019, it features three new headboards and is available in 10 colours.

1973 - Auronde

The Auronde is made of beech wood with characteristic aluminium details and rounded legs. Frans de la Haye wanted to design a sustainable and modern bed. Not just a functional bed, but a decent piece of furniture on which one can read or watch TV. It is the first bed in which luxury and comfort merge. This fit perfectly into the seventies, as at that time central heating came into the bedroom, which changed the function of the bedroom. The bright colours make the Auronde a piece of furniture that turns the bedroom into a living room.

"In the 70s, many beds were made with chipboard and a melamine top layer, a combination that deteriorated quickly. I wanted to design a bed that could last for generations. That's why I chose a combination of beech wood and aluminum components, both materials that don't deteriorate easily. I love that the Auronde is already 50 years old and is being passed down from generation to generation—exactly how I imagined it."

Frans de la Haye – Designer of Auping Auronde

1965 - Couchette

The Couchette, designed by Friso Kramer, offers many possibilities. It is a multifunctional product. It is both a (day) bed and a sofa in one, with removable cushions and an integrated floating table. It has a geometric shape and the legs in the corner give the Couchette a clear and robust appearance.

1963 - Euroika Set

A complete set of bedroom furniture, consisting of a bed, a bedside table, chairs and a mirror. At that time, it was very progressive to align all the bedroom furniture. In the design of the furniture, Friso Kramer applied the bent corners that are so characteristic of Auping.

1957 - Carroo

The design of the Carroo is characterised by square tubes. The Carroo wins a silver medal at the prestigious Brussels Furniture Expo. Although the Carroo wins this award, former Auping director Willem Auping is not a fan of the design. He thinks that tubes should be round, not square. The Carroo was Dick Cordemeijer's last design for Auping.

1954 - Ariadne

The Ariadne is the first bed that Friso Kramer designed for Auping. It is made of steel, its head and footboard are made of wood with folded edges. It is very characteristic of the sixties. The Ariadne has thin, tapered legs.

1954 - Ariëlle

The Arielle follows shortly after the Cleopatra. The Arielle is again a sofa bed. It is a light and open model, made with a strong slatted construction. It is completely made of steel and is therefore strong and has a long lifespan.

1953 - Cleopatra

The Cleopatra daybed breaks with the design of all previous beds. Auping commissioned AR (Dick) Cordemeijer to design "something beautiful." In the 1982s, bedroom interior design changed, and the elegant design of the Cleopatra fit perfectly. The Cleopatra is the first "industrial design" bed; it is the first mass-produced bed. The bed is made of steel with a wooden trim. The Cleopatra was produced until 700,000, a remarkably long time and a testament to its success. More than XNUMX Cleopatra beds were sold.

1925 - Hollandia folding bed

Technical director Welschen designs the first folding bed from Auping. With this bed-in-wardrobe combination, you have enough space in your room during the day and a place to sleep at night. There is a great demand for this solution in the Netherlands at the moment because people live in small houses. The folding bed is also available in a mechanical version with an electric motor.

1980 - Hospital bed n.17

On behalf of the Burgerziekenhuis in Amsterdam, Johannes Auping is improving the first bed he designed for the St Geertruiden Gasthuis in Deventer: Hospital bed No. 17. It is made of removable wooden slabs and steel. Both the wooden and steel parts can be delivered in different colours. It is the first bed with an Auping mesh base.
